Overview

The Chattermill & Jira integration enables teams to convert Chattermill alerts into Jira tickets. This ensures critical customer issues reach your development teams with full context intact.

Chattermill continuously monitors your customer feedback data and generates alerts when it detects important patterns or issues. Once an alert is created, you can convert it into a Jira ticket with one click.

This ensures your Product and Engineering teams are promptly notified of customer issues that require action, with all relevant context automatically included in the ticket.

About Chattermill Alerts

Chattermill offers various types of automated alerts to monitor your feedback. The Jira integration works specifically with Anomaly Detection Alerts.

These alerts trigger when your data falls outside expected patterns (like a sudden spike in complaints or an unusual drop in NPS). They help you spot risks and opportunities early, without manually monitoring dashboards.

When an anomaly is detected, the alert appears in your Alerts Page where you can review the details and convert it directly into a Jira ticket.

Coming soon to Chattermill & Jira integration:

  • Metric Changed: Alerts you when a key metric moves beyond a set threshold (e.g. NPS drops below 30).

  • New Feedback Received: Triggers when new feedback matches specific filters, such as themes, segments, or products.

How to Set Up Jira Integration

Requirements

Before setting up the integration, ensure you have:

  • Admin permissions in Chattermill to configure integrations

  • Admin permissions in Jira Software Cloud to authorize the connection

  • Jira accounts for all team members who will create tickets from alerts

Setup instructions

Setting up the integration is a one-time process that takes just a minute. Once connected, anyone on your team with the right permissions can start creating Jira tickets from alerts.

  1. In Chattermill, navigate to Settings > Integrations.

  2. Select Jira from the available integrations.

  3. Click Continue to authenticate your Jira account.

  4. Complete the authorization process and you'll be redirected back to Chattermill with confirmation of successful connection.

You're now ready to start converting alerts to Jira tickets. The connection will remain active until you choose to disconnect it.

Converting Alerts to Jira tickets

When an alert identifies an anomaly in your customer feedback, you'll want to ensure it is addressed. Converting the alert to a Jira ticket puts it directly into your team's existing workflow.

  1. Go to the Alerts page in Chattermill.

  2. Click on any alert to open it.

  3. Click Add to Jira in the top-right corner.

  4. Choose to either create a new issue or link to an existing issue.

  5. If creating a new issue, choose the Jira project to add it to, then set the issue type and priority.

  6. Click Create Jira issue.

The entire process takes just a few seconds. The Jira ticket is automatically generated with all relevant alert information, ready for your team to prioritize and action.

What's Included in Jira Tickets

Each Jira ticket created from an alert contains:

  • Summary: Description of the feedback that triggered the alert.

  • Metadata: Data source, themes, metrics, and when the alert was detected.

  • Link: Direct link back to the alert in Chattermill for full context.

This ensures your Product and Engineering teams have the complete context needed to prioritize and address customer issues effectively.

How Does This Help Your Teams?

  • Product Teams: Can quickly move customer issues into the backlog without losing context.

  • Engineering Teams: Get notified about customer issues in their existing workflow with all the details needed to understand and fix the problem.

  • Customer Success Teams: Can see which reported issues have tickets and track their progress.

What this solves:

Critical customer issues go straight from detection to your development workflow. Each Jira ticket includes all relevant context and links back to the source feedback, ensuring your team understands both the problem and its impact on customers.
