Using Lyra Agent in Slack

Bring customer insights into your Slack conversations

Written by Natalia Dwórznik

Chattermill brings Lyra Agent into your Slack workspace. Mention @Chattermill in Slack to ask about your customer feedback, investigate metric changes, or follow up on alerts.

It delivers the same verified intelligence as the in-app agent and returns structured answers with links back to the underlying data.

Use Chattermill in Slack when you need customer insights in context without switching to a browser tab.

How to get started

To use Lyra Agent in Slack, you need:

  • A Slack workspace

  • A Slack connection set up in Chattermill

  • Lyra Agent enabled on your Chattermill account

Enable Lyra Agent in your Chattermill account

Lyra Agent is in Closed Beta. To request early access, contact [email protected] or your XLG Programme Lead, or join the waitlist.

Connect Chattermill to Slack

Chattermill has a one-click integration with Slack. Here's how to get set up:

  1. Log in to Chattermill and open Settings.

  2. Go to Integrations, find Slack, and click Connect account.

  3. On the authorization page, click Allow to give Chattermill access to your Slack workspace.

  4. You’ll return to the Integrations page, where Slack will show as connected.

Note: If Slack integration was connected before Lyra Agent was enabled within your Chattermill account, you’ll need to refresh the connection. Disconnect Slack from the Integrations page, then connect it again by following the steps above.

Once set up, mention @Chattermill in any channel or thread with a question about your customer feedback, and it replies in-thread with quantified insights. For a private conversation, send @Chattermill a direct message.

Getting answers from Lyra Agent in Slack

You can ask Chattermill questions in a channel, a direct message, or the side panel.

  • In a channel: Mention @Chattermill with your question. Follow-up questions in the thread also need a mention.

  • In a direct message: Open Chattermill from your Slack apps and type your question in the Messages tab.

  • In the side panel: Open Chattermill from the top of Slack to chat with it alongside your current conversation. This requires a paid Slack plan, while mentions and direct messages work on any plan.

What you can do with Lyra Agent in Slack

Chattermill in Slack offers a focused set of Lyra Agent’s in-app capabilities, built for Slack.

Ask any question, get analyst-quality answers

Ask questions in plain language about your customers, metric changes, or key issues.

Simple questions:

  • "What are customers saying about our delivery experience?”

  • “What was our NPS last quarter?”

  • "What issues are customers reporting with the mobile app?"

Complex requests:

  • "Give me the full picture on checkout — the sentiment, the top issues, and what customers are asking us to fix."

  • “Our CSAT dropped last month — dig into why, show me the top three issues behind it, and pull a few customer quotes for each.”

  • “Why is our NPS higher for iOS customers than Android? Break down what's behind the gap.”

Investigate an issue

If you receive scheduled notifications or alerts from Chattermill in Slack, reply in the thread and ask Chattermill to investigate what’s behind them.

  • “What caused our NPS to drop this week?”

  • “Why was there a spike in customer complaints yesterday?”

  • “Which customer segments are driving the increase in negative feedback?”

You can also bring Chattermill into an ongoing conversation with your team by mentioning it in the channel or thread.

  • “Show me the top 10 feature requests this year.”

  • “Share key customer quotes about delivery complaints.”

  • “How has sentiment around our new pricing changed since launch?”

Create charts and tables

Ask Chattermill for a chart or table, and it applies the relevant filters and breakdowns to build the view you need.

  • “Create a chart showing how NPS has trended over time.”

  • “Show a table of the top 10 customer issues this quarter.”

  • “Create a bar chart comparing NPS across countries.”

Permissions and access

By default, Chattermill’s Lyra Agent in Slack uses the project you most recently worked in. If your organization has multiple projects, you can switch to a different one directly in Slack.

Chattermill follows your existing user roles, data permissions, and space permissions, so it only returns results from data you can already access in Chattermill.

How Chattermill handles your data

Chattermill only accesses a Slack thread when someone mentions @Chattermill in it, and solely to answer the question asked. To keep follow-up questions in context, the question, thread, and answer are saved with the conversation in Chattermill.

You’re in control of this data. You can delete a conversation in Chattermill at any time. If you don’t, it’s automatically removed 30 days after the last message, or when the Chattermill app is removed from your workspace.

Answers are generated by a trusted third-party AI model provider acting as Chattermill’s sub-processor, and your Slack data is never used to train AI models. To learn more, see our Privacy Policy and Security & Privacy pages.

Troubleshooting

If something isn’t working, these checks resolve most issues.

The agent isn’t replying in Slack

  • Make sure your message includes @Chattermill. Chattermill only responds when mentioned.

  • Open Settings > Integrations > Slack in Chattermill and check that your account shows as connected.

  • Confirm Lyra Agent is enabled for your organization. Speak to your Chattermill admin or XLG Programme Lead to enable access.

  • If all of the above look right, disconnect Slack under Settings > Integrations > Slack, then connect it again.

  • If you need further help, contact our support team at [email protected].

Answers seem incomplete or off-topic

  • Check which project is named in Chattermill’s response. If it’s not the right one, select Change project to switch. Chattermill uses your most recently used project by default.

  • If you can’t change the project, disconnect and reconnect Slack under Settings > Integrations > Slack.

  • Ask Chattermill to look within a specific Space to narrow the analysis.

  • Add more detail to your question, such as a date range, country, or theme.

  • If you need further help, contact our support team at [email protected].

Responses take longer than expected

Questions that cover large amounts of feedback can take a little longer to answer. To speed things up:

  • Ask Chattermill to focus on a specific Space.

  • Add details such as a date range, country, or theme, so Chattermill can work with a more targeted dataset.

  • If you need further help, contact our support team at [email protected].
